In the northeastern part of Bologna, in the areas surrounding Via Scandellara and Via Larga, after the recent inauguration of the Unipol Tower some important transformations of the area are still under way.
In the area along Via Scandellara, in particular in the zone called "dei rottamai" (heavily degraded but now partially reclaimed), new homes will be built and actions will be taken to improve services, public spaces, bike lanes and pedestrian walks and connections between the whole Scandellara/Terrapieno area and the rest of the city. The project was the focus of information and discussion with the inhabitants in the years 2012-2013 and subsequently approved by the Municipality. Now the initiative awaits the owners of the areas involved in the construction.
A new 23,000 square meter public park has been completed in Via del Terrapieno, including an area of about 2,000 square meters set aside for vegetable gardening.
In the Via Larga "city park" new vegetable gardens were recently built following designs submitted to the 2014 "Ortipertutti" urban agriculture competition.
In the stretch of Via Larga that intersects with Via dell'Industria, the road was repaired and the bike and pedestrian lanes connecting to the Pilastro area were redeveloped, concurrent with the construction of a new commercial structure that was part of the Operational Plan for widespread urban qualification.
In the adjacent "Roveri" industrial area a progressive process of transforming businesses that produce goods into new centres offering services continues, among which stands out the new "Fashion Research Italy" facility that offers services to companies in the field of training, culture and research.
